Blog Entry #1:HEY YA!

The song Hey Ya! is a popular song released in 2003. The song is ranked #186 on the Rolling Stone Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This song also topped the Billboard Hot 100. The video features André 3000 as eight different versions of him, playing the whole song by himself. The song received lots of positive critiques, and it won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance at the 46th Grammy Awards. The music video starts off with the Band Manager telling the band which consists of 8 versions of André 3000 not to mess up or they won’t get paid. Then the song starts of with the entrance mimicking the Beatles 1964 performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, well I guess after that it’s just girls screaming like it’s a crazy concert and a bunch of wacky dance moves. It’s funny to see André 3000 doing 8 different things at the same time. The video also seems to target all ages and genders because in the music video you can see an old lady dancing along to the video. The catchy beat is accompanied  by the crazy dance moves in the video.  I first heard this song in 2003 a couple of months after it came out and till now it has not gotten old for me. This song is filled with crazy dance moves and catchy lines such as  “what’s cooler than being cold! ICE COLD!”.
