Blog Entry #6: Logo Parodies that speak the truth

Describe the logo using the principles and elements of design?

The logo is the symbol of British Petroleum (BP). This logo was made to tell us what the BP oil spill caused. The orginal logo is the the leaf in green and yellow but due to the recent oil spill the artist who redesigned the logo added black to the bottom half to represent the oil spill.

2. Describe the symbols used in the logo. Why did the graphic artist use such imagery?
The symbols in the logo are the dolphin, birds and sea gulls covered in oil. The artist used this imagery to show us the negative impacts that the oil spill had on the animal and their habitats. The other symbol is the leaf which represent the earth and since the bottom half of the logo is covered in oil, it represents the damage done to our environment.

3. What does this logo say of BP's corporate identity?

The logo says that BP is not a petroleum company but just a bigger problem.
It says that BP doesn't care about the animals and their habitats and that they
just care about the oil and the money they make. This logo is blaming BP for the oil
spill and the damage it caused.

*Side Note
In my opinion the oilspill isn't all BP's fault because their plan was not to spill oil in to the ocean. It was just that BP did very little to try to clean it up or fix it the minute it happened which then launched the event to the medi and the media took it and as usual twisted it around to make it look like it was all BP's fault. The truth was that, it was an accident. I feel that BP shouldn't be blamed for everything. In my opinion for BP to be good in my books they should spend some money in restoring some of the habitats and the beaches that were damaged due to the oil spill.

  1. I think you made a very good reflection concerning the BP and the logo, especially since you added your own opinion.
Colours and shapes were major principles of elements in the logo, and you clearly recognized that.
Great interpretation of the BP's intentions, logo and the symbols that were present!
