Blog Entry #5: Digital Actors

1.   Is this acting or is this animation?

For the movie Avatar there was mostly acting with some animation  but both were needed and one of them by its self would not work. Avatar is mostly acting because there were actors there to say & act out their lines and there were doubles to do the stunts & some of the other stuff. The animation is needed in order to give the aliens the real look and the real feeling. The animation would  have been needed especially because this movie was also released in 3D so the animation aspect would have been very important

2.   Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?

I don't think that animated characters should be eligible for acting awards because they don't do anything, only the actors and the animators deserve the awards because the animated character is a creation of both their works. Without the human actor's raw emotions the animation the animated characters would not exist and would not have a personality.

3.   Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?

I do not think that human actors will ever become obsolete because there will always be a need for raw human emotions, and even if there are only animated movies the prodcuers of these movies would always need voice actors. Since all the movies are watched by humans there will always be a need for humans to watch humans act, instead of watching animated movies over & over again.

  1. Animation has really become a spectacle of the modern world. Having many of the same points as you, I'm going to have to strongly agree with the points you made. I never even considered the final point you made, the one referring to the need of human involvement, so props there. Animation will continue to grow, but without the touch of humanity, it will amount to nothing.
